History
Koher is not only a system and its tools. It is also the way it does what it does, so where it started matters. Each date here is taken from the working files themselves, which carry it in their headers, filenames or version history.

Koher is conceived
It began as a question, the same day as some reading in critical animal studies: could an AI system be trained to reason towards the most logically stable position it could reach? I spent the day working out whether that was possible, and what it would take.

Language and judgement are separated
The working notes give the two jobs to two different things. A small language model reads the text and pulls out its parts. Fixed rules, written down, make the judgement. A three-stage design built on that split is drafted under the working name Design Concept Coherence Validator.

The first prototype
The first prototype is committed to version control.

The name Koher
After a spell as xvalidator, the name Koher first appears in writing, in a document setting out what the project could become.

Free tools, not a consultancy
I stop offering Koher to institutions as a consultancy and start making free tools instead. The tools have been free ever since.
